    Objective: to develop basic drawing skills and the capability to see geometric relationships.

    Using this renowned 19th century drawing course, Mims Studios has translated its own method of teaching uncompromised accuracy by emphasizing the seeing of geometric and tonal relationships rather than by rote mechanical measuring.
    TONAL AND COLOR STUDIES

    Objective: to develop the ability to see "effect" and patterns of design.

    Another essential element of artistic seeing is the ability to recognize "effect." Using the brush rather than the pencil, these studies isolate abstract elements of design, tone, and color, rather than finished detail, and introduce the investigation of how composition has been used in the history of art.
    FIRST CAST DRAWING

    Objective: to concentrate on the elements of optical illusion - contour, shading, and focus - with an extended life size project.

    Combining lessons from the two previous programs, students use the sight-size method to begin working in the round. Copying carefully selected casts from antiquity, this method allows for the study of form under controlled circumstances while indirectly influencing the receptive mind to more advanced concepts present in the original work of art.
